The Sword in the Stone ( Walt Disney, 1963) |

| Disney's version of T. H. White's children's masterpiece is low on philosophy and characterization, two strengths of the original novel, but is high on spectacle and incident. Several episodes, such as that in which the Wart gets turned into a squirrel, do not occur in the book, and Disney has ham-fistedly made both Ector and Kay into overbearing boors, unlike the sensitive portrayals by White. Again, though, the movie is entertaining, if you can refrain from constantly comparing it to the book. |
